Wake Up Call
Awaken from the void to a ship in chaos and a universe that has moved on without you.
Wake Up Call is the first main quest of The Outer Worlds, following the prologue 'The Hope' in the game's quest log. It thrusts a cryogenically frozen stowaway into the chaotic reality of Halcyon, marking the transition from suspended animation to active survival. This mission begins with the player already inside the crashed Unreliable, introducing the immediate dangers of the ship and the conflict with Spacer's Choice security, while the ship's malfunction adds to the chaos. It establishes the core premise: a sleeper who has been awake for far too long must navigate a ship in crisis while uncovering why they were left behind.

- Parvati Holcomb
Lore & Background
The player begins the quest already inside the crashed Unreliable. Parvati Holcomb is first encountered outside the Unreliable, near the crashed ship, after the player exits it. Captain Alex Hawthorne is killed before the crash, when the player's escape pod collides with his ship during the prologue. The player is not directed to The Hope during 'Wake Up Call'; that occurs later in the quest 'Stranger in a Strange Land'.
In Their Own Story
The cold hits first, a biting chill that seeps through the synthetic skin of the cryo-pod before the mind even registers the light. Alarms blare, a rhythmic, dissonant scream echoing off the curved metal walls of Hull A. The pod hisses open, spewing a cloud of frost into the dim emergency lighting. You stumble out, legs like lead, eyes struggling to focus on the floating debris and the dark, viscous stains on the floor. A voice cuts through the ringing in your ears—Parvati's, frantic and sharp. 'Don't move yet,' she warns, her hand hovering over a flare gun. 'We aren't alone.'
Reader's Guide
The primary objective is to locate Dr. Parvati Holberg in the Medical Bay after escaping the cryo-pods. Players must navigate the damaged corridors of Hull A, avoiding or eliminating hostile Scavengers who have infiltrated the ship. Key decision points involve how to interact with the crew remnants; players can choose to be aggressive, negotiating through violence, or diplomatic, using social skills to gather information without bloodshed. Upon reaching Parvati, she directs the player to find a way to contact the Monarch. This leads to exploring the Engineering and Bridge sections. A critical choice arises regarding the ship's navigation computer: players can attempt to manually override it to signal for help or leave it as is to conserve power. The quest concludes once the player successfully launches the escape pod toward the Monarch. Depending on previous choices, players may rescue additional crew members or leave them behind, affecting future reputation with factions like the Board or the Scavengers. The ending solidifies the player's role as a survivor seeking answers in a hostile galaxy.
