Stimpack

One quick jab, and you're back in the fight before the Monarch security drones even finish their patrol.

Stimpack

The Stimpack is a staple consumable in The Outer Worlds, a compact medical injector that delivers a quick burst of healing to a wounded traveler on Halcyon. Think of it as the colony's answer to a first-aid kit: no fancy surgery, no Monarch-approved pharmaceuticals—just a needle, a vial of stimulant compound, and enough chemistry to knit a gash shut before the next firefight.

It sits at the lower end of the game's medical item ladder, below the heavier-duty Medkits, and is one of the first healing tools a player encounters. Because it's lightweight, widely available, and requires no crafting, the Stimpack becomes the default 'oops, I took a hit' button for the early and mid portions of the campaign, and a reliable safety net even after better gear is in hand.

Lore & Background

In the Monarch Corporation's official medical supply chain, healing agents are tiered and regulated. The Stimpack is the entry-level product: a pressurized canister of synthetic adrenaline blended with a fast-acting coagulant, designed for field use by colony workers, dockhands, and the occasional spacefarer who can't afford a proper Medkit. The label on the canister carries the standard Monarch health-and-safety disclaimer, though on Halcyon most people ignore it after the first time they pop one into their arm.

The compound inside is not, strictly speaking, a 'stimulant' in the recreational sense. It floods the bloodstream with a concentrated cocktail that accelerates clotting, suppresses pain receptors, and nudges cellular repair into overdrive for a few critical seconds. The effect is immediate but modest—enough to close a wound or shake off a bad hit, not enough to walk away from a plasma burn. Veterans of the Halcyon colony often joke that a Stimpack is what you use when you'd rather not stop moving to find a Medkit.

Because the Monarch Corporation controls all pharmaceutical production on the colony, Stimpacks carry a small corporate logo and a lot of fine print. In the black-market shops of the Edgewater and the back alleys of the Monarch's own facilities, you'll find them stacked in crates next to cheaper, unlabeled 'black vials' that do roughly the same job with considerably less paperwork—and considerably more risk.

In Their Own Story

The bar on the Edgewater smelled like burnt coffee and gun oil. You'd just ducked in after a run-in with a pair of Monarch security bots that hadn't appreciated your opinion of their 'voluntary compliance program.' A thin line of blood traced your forearm, and the metal taste in your mouth wasn't going away on its own.

You fished the Stimpack from your jacket—dented, warm from the pocket, the little Monarch logo scuffed to a pale smear. The bartender, a broad woman with a scar through her left eyebrow, didn't look up from the glass she was polishing. "You gonna pop that or just stare at it like it owes you money?"

You pressed the injector to your inner bicep and hit the release. The cold sting bloomed, then heat, then a low hum in your teeth. The bleeding slowed. The world sharpened.

"There," you said, setting the empty canister on the bar. "Round's on you."

She finally looked up, raised one eyebrow, and slid a bottle of something amber across the counter. "You're a weird one, spacefarer."

Reader's Guide

Stimpack | Consumable – Medical | Common tier

The Stimpack restores a moderate amount of health in a single use. It is lighter and cheaper than a Medkit, making it the go-to quick-heal for early encounters and for players who want to keep their inventory weight low. It has no damage output and no special passive effect—its entire job is the one-shot HP restore.

You'll find Stimpacks in a wide variety of places: supply crates in the Monarch's own facilities, the general stores on the Edgewater and the Monarch's hub, loot tables in early-game areas, and as a common drop from lower-level enemies. No quest is required to obtain one, and it is not locked behind any DLC. Vendors in every major settlement stock a small quantity, so resupply is rarely a problem.

A small note on flavor: the item description winks at the player with a dry, Monarch-corporate tone—something along the lines of a liability disclaimer about 'unauthorized use' and 'side effects including but not limited to a brief sense of invincibility.' It's a quiet joke about how the Monarch treats even a basic bandage as a regulated product, and fans love the little world-building baked into a one-line heal item.
